About Bend and Central Oregon

The climate is mild and welcoming with definite seasons to enjoy recreation. Bend is located near the center of Oregon at the foot of the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountain Range. Bend is the economic hub of Central Oregon and the recreational capital of the Northwest, and boasts 25 world-class golf courses, an Olympic-Caliber ski mountain and fabulous year-round events.

Bend is the sixth-fastest-growing metropolitan area in the United States according to census figures released in September 2005, and the present population is at approximately 70,400 people. Bend is approximately 160 miles southeast of Portland, 128 miles northeast of Eugene and 23 miles to Mt. Bachelor. Bend averages 300 days of sunshine and provides four distinct seasons, with an average of 10-15 inches of precipitation a year. The outdoor recreation and sunny warm climate appeals to those from the wetter valley regions and is comparable to the sunnier climates of Texas, Arizona, and California.
